WORDSMITH
More Than Words Can Say EP
Son 027 / May 2004

A young blud with a staunch heart coming through hard with a heavyweight six-tracker like you never heard before from someone releasing his solo debut.. A hard rhymer with super tight construction & delivery, and one of those voices that was meant to bless beats, Wordsmith delivers a documentary on wax with each of the tracks on offer here. And everything you need to know about him is right there in the lyrics – proper honesty & commentary from a man with plenty to say, and the smarts & the skills to make you feel it.

MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY (FEAT. GENESIS)
Kicking things off with a banging production from BEAT BUTCHA, Wordsmith & his occasional rhyming partner, GENESIS set things straight on the state of play in hip-hop in 04. Not for the faint-hearted, and possibly not one to play your mum, but with MCs like these two repping the scene, its looking all good.

SUN GOD
The off-kilter grimey jazz production by TOM CARUANA is the perfect foundation for this single verse onslaught of lyrics that’ll leave you in no doubt that you’re hearing someone with the skills and heart to be in this to win this.

THE HARDSHIP
Another banger from BEAT BUTCHA, and an anthemic call to arms to all Wordsmith’s hillions. If Mobb Deep moved to Brixton, they’d buy this record and be jealous.. but after hearing this record, they probably wouldn’t want to move to Brixton in the first place.. Reality (CC)TV that’s got nothing to do with celebs..

NOMAD
Tracking back to his younger days, Words traces the steps that led to the here & now. Like a manifesto of a man on a mission, striving to elevate, while keeping a focus, (and if he gets up on your level B, that’s a bonus..) Rolling beats and funky licks courtesy of the prolific one, TOM CARUANA.

FED UP
Ever get fed up with life, people, yourself? Feel the need to vent? Then learn the words to this 90 second burst of articulated angryness and rap em as you walk down the street..You might scare a few little old ladies, but you’ll get a lot off your chest.

GRAND DECEPTION
We’ve kept this one to the end, but it’s a gem. You’re unlikely to hear such a wicked combination of lush instrumentation and smart, rugged, heartfelt lyrics & pure sung vocals anytime soon. TOM CARUANA, this time with his Boiler Room Collective, delivers in spades on the production, coming through with the soul & the shimmer. Topped off with SABRINA ROBERTS’ beautiful chorus & adlibs, its the perfect backdrop for Wordsmith to get poetic on the not-so-beautiful that surrounds us.

“bare brers are like “raah!! turn that other junk off..”
