DEF TEX
Stop Pause Get Respect 10"
Son 049 / 25th July 2011
It's been a while since we brought you new material from Norwich veterans Def Tex.
But then again, in the context of the band's history, a few years' hiatus here and there is pretty much standard, bearing in mind they first started out when Ronald Reagan was still in power.. Since then they've gone on to steadily forge a long and distinguished back catalogue of peerless releases, always pushing at the boundaries to bring new colours and flavours to the hip-hop template.
From the early 'Tutorial Sessions' EPs through to classic albums 'Serene Bug' and 'Thanks But No Thanks', and the many releases in between, the band have at all times walked their own path, nourished by their many and varied musical influences and their own will to innovate.
So now in July 2011, we're really very happy to bring you this our first ever 10" format release, featuring a brand new Def Tex recording and a recent solo joint from Def Tex emcee, Chrome.
'Stop Pause Reflect' brings the boom with some low slung 808s and minimal electronics as the bass-heavy foundation for the the unbeatable chalk 'n' cheese combo of Chrome's effortless rapid-fire delivery and seamlessly tailored flow alongside The Anthropologist's funkily idiosyncratic gruff poetic lyricism.
'Get Respect, Parts I & II' brings back some of that hard-edged uptempo UK golden-age flavour, with Chrome on the solo tip handing out a lesson on what it means to be an emcee. And he should know, given he's been killing stages since forever.
The 10" vinyl is a strictly limited edition of 150 copies.
Each copy is hand stamped and numbered and includes a free download bundle including both tracks featured on the 10" and an exclusive 51 minute mix 'A Brief History of Def Tex', mixed by Chrome.
Available right now from the Son shop and also from the Def Tex bandcamp.
We hope you enjoy this little slice of free-range hip-hop from a truly ground-breaking crew.
