A word on Channel U

We thought we’d write a little note on Channel U. We heard the other day that Styly Cee & Cappo’s video for the ‘Unwritten Rule’ track from the H-Bomb EP was rejected by Channel U, as they ‘didn’t think it was a very good track’ and it was ‘a bit gritty’.

Now, all well & good, we understand music’s a subjective thing, and both the track and the video are hard as nails – although we think it’s brilliant, we understand it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But come on. This is Channel U we’re talking about here, anyone who’s sat through more than half an hour of Channel U’s ‘programming’ will know quality is hardly the defining characteristic of what gets playlisted.

Or to put it more plainly, they would appear to put any old shit on there. All the better if it looks like its been filmed on a cameraphone, the music is shit, and the crew have managed to chip in for a couple of ropey old trout in hotpants to jiggle about while trying not to fall over. All good entertainment I hear you say. But we say: if they can’t extend themselves to squeezing in a decent hardcore hip-hop video amongst all that stuff, then they truly be the wackest.

Now don’t get us twisted: it’s really not that much of a biggie, and we don’t really mind (despite the pisstake to the right). For starters, its not like the bad old days where if it didn’t get on MTV (and usually it wouldn’t), that was your lot and no-one apart from the band and the label would ever get to see the vid. Right now, you can see the video:

RIGHT HERE within this site, where for a mere £1 (less than a text vote) you can also download a hi-res version of the video for burning to DVD, so you can still watch it on your telly (without having to sit through loads of ringtone ads). And if you download the complete H-Bomb EP as an mp3 download, you get the hi-res .mov file bundled in for free.

So it’s all good. In closing our little point of discussion here, we should say that the lady that we spoke to at Channel U was very helpful and nice, despite the musical spamheadedness of her numpty colleagues.
