SHOW IN SHOPHip hop has played a big part in Wordsmiths life for most of the 25 years hes been around. He was spitting before he could gurgle, and writing rhymes since his childhood growing up in Tulse Hill, Brixton, around his breakdancing brothers.. The first record he ever bought was Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mels The Message, but there is a wealth of other styles of music that have had their influence on him, from Motown soul to mid-eighties electro through to the Wu and beyond. It is the darker side of things that he has always been drawn to musically haunting chords and sombre musical landscapes.
Years of rhyming and stepping up to the trials of life have matured Mr. Smith into a deep-thinking MC truly worthy of his name. Always the analyst, Wordsmith is continually breaking down the world around him, twisting it up a little, and examining it from a different viewpoint. This gives his lyrics depth and an ability to entice the listener with his intricate wordplay and reflective honest lyrics, no matter what kind of beat hes riding. He explores the whole range of human emotions as he tells stories of life how he has seen and lived it - having not always stayed out of trouble, of where hes going and how life should be.
An affiliate of Boiler Room, Terra Firma, Hillian Squad and Task Force, Wordsmith stepped up on the solo tip in 2004 with his debut EP 'More Than Words Can Say' on Son, while also featuring on the 'F.T.P' series of mixtapes by DJ Answer & Genesis, a DJ Skully mixtape and Lowkey's Key to the Game vol. 2, and a solo EP on Sit Tight Records ' Life After The Apocalypse'.
Wordsmith's solo debut album, 'The Roadman Showcase' followed on Son in 2005 to much love.
