SHOW IN SHOPFor a man who started out vowing he’d never rap, being an emcee is something Aaron aka Midnyte, aka Midnyte Precise, aka M-I-D, does pretty well.
Coming from Nottingham, home to one of the strongest and longest running hip hop scenes in the UK, Midnyte would listen to the pirate radio shows of Styly Cee, One Step, Code Red, and his cousin Bertie. Falling in love with the music they played, he began making regular visits to Bertie’s house, and learning how to use turntables.
Spending his lunch money on as many records as he could afford, he became DJ Midnyte, Bertie’s sidekick and part of the Empire Squadron on long-running Nottingham pirate, Heatwave FM. Luckily for us, the DJ sets were ‘always a bit hard for the peeps,’ and Midnyte would often end up MC’ing over Bertie’s sets.
Gradually becoming immersed in the Nottingham scene, Mid met local heads DJ Fever, Lee Ramsey, Viking, and eventually Styly Cee. With his DJ’ing and his college work on the decline, and surrounded by inspiration, Aaron bought as many instrumentals as he could find, and decided he’d have his say as an MC.
In his own words, Midnyte is about ‘longevity, skills, and representing,’ and it’s his pure addiction to hip hop that’s kept him going through some tough times, and brought him to SON Records, a ‘dream come true.’ Having already dropped some killer verses on tracks with Cappo and Stylz, and able to hold his own against the best of the British, M-I-D’s ready for the spotlight.
And so to the present. Working with UK veteran and label-mate Styly Cee, Midnyte has found a natural partner for his tough but thoughtful sound. With his first EP about to drop, including the track ‘Nadia’ that’s been making waves on the underground scene for over a year now, things look pretty good for Mr. Precise.
Well, sometimes it’s best to break a promise...
