CAPPO

SHOW IN SHOP

Born and raised in Nottingham, Cappo first entered the world of hip-hop as a grafitti writer, and started rapping at an early age. By 95 he was rapping daily, and was one half of a two man group. No releases, but the experience was enough to boost him to go for self, and he went on to do his first proper live show at Nottingham Carnival, summer '97. Since then a regular on the Notts scene, and renowned for holding his own against any emcees, local or international: 'Gotta touch a stage at least once a month'-type stuff. Not one to sit on his mic, Caps was soon busy on the production tip, and his 'First Knight' 3 track demo in summer '98 was soon followed up by his self-produced self-financed 15 track demo album 'The Cap Tape Volume One', leading to an approach from Son, a track being featured on Disorda's UK artist's showcase 'Mind The Gap' series, and a four-star album review in HHC.

His first piece of vinyl, the 'Cap 3000' EP was released in September '99, followed by an superb guest vocal on one of the best received tracks ('That's The Way It Goes') on the Lost Island album 'Forbidden Ground' and the killer posse track '7even' on the Mad Doctor X 'Project X Pt. II' EP, rounding off a productive 2 years with his second solo release, 'The Codex EP' in September 2000 (all on Son Records).

Since then Caps has gone on to release records on pretty much every British hip-hop label going, performing far and wide both here in the UK and overseas in the process. Releases include his classic debut 'Spaz The World' which garnered intense critical acclaim across the board, and the series of bullet-proof 'Heavy Bronx' EPs alongside fellow Notts natives, the P Brothers , and appearances on Ninja Tune act The Herbaliser's recent LP.

Popping up from time to on collaborations with Son's resident production maestro, Styly  Cee (on Styly's classic' The Crusoe EP alongside the legendary Scorzayzee, and  'The Test Match' 7" in 2005, the duo have since hooked up again recently for Cappo's self-released 'Director's Commentary' mixtape (a heavyweight retrospective of Cappo's 10 years in the game) and 12" release, 'The H-Bomb EP' (Nov '08), which as it's title suggests is explosive. More recently, (Nov '09) he's collaborated with international beat slayer Endemic for the 'Needle Drop' EP on No Cure Records, also released on 12" to widespread acclaim.
